There are a few versions for the origins of Mahjong: some believe Chinese army officers are its founders, others attribute it to a Shanghai nobleman from the 19th century, it may also have been discovered by two brothers from Ningpo. In 1949 it was forbidden by the government of the People's Republic of China which labeled it as a capitalist symbol. Today it is a favorite pastime all over the world.
